11:4
And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top [may reach] unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
I've usually thought of this story as applying to a lesson about pride, but I couldn't think of an application about pride this time. I thought about presumption.
Proverbs 19:21[There are] many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
They were building up this big thing, and they thought they were going to do something, but the Lord had other plans.
I usually think everything is going OK for me, and can't think of anything that will mess it up. I think things are going a certain way today, they have before, and they will gain tomorrow.
James 4:13-15Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
Whereas ye know not what [shall be] on the morrow. For what [is] your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
For that ye [ought] to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.We shouldn't be complacent about our jobs or are money, or, especially our time.
