wise in your own eyes

Proverbs 3

v7

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

I'm not exactly sure what being wise in your own eyes means. Maybe it means something like, you think you're wise, but the Lord might not think you're wise, and you might not actually be wise.

This makes me think of something else the Bible talks about, being wise in your own conceit. These things sound like pride, and they sound to me like I shouldn't be conceited and proud about my own wisdom.

From: O Soul, Are You Weary and Troubled

By Helen Lemmel, 1922
O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s a light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
