v27
Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard [thee] also, saith the LORD.They had found a book of the law of the Lord given by Moses, and read it in front of this king. Obviously, he believed it, and applied it to his own life. How do you respond to reading the Bible? We should respond to it.
Also notice that the Lord heard the king weep. The Lord hears us seeking Him by weeping.
And, lastly, the Lord's Word does have an effect. Look how it changed this king's life when they read it to him. After that, the prophet sent this message (v27,28) back from the Lord to the king. Then the king called all the people together and read it to them. It even had an effect on all the people- they served the Lord, and didn't depart from following the Lord all the days of this king. Wow. The fact that it makes a big difference should encourage us to get the Lord's Word out to other people.
